Portal Case Studies

Every successful project begins with good communication. I thrive to get as much information on the project as possible from the stakeholders. With a kick-off and follow up meetings i can refine a creative brief and project scope. They are the subject matter experts and they understand when they will need. Next, do your homework, research the subject, know the product, and know the audience. What I learned, is ask the right questions and get to know your customers and their likes and dislikes.

Research your target, figure out what messaging will work best to communicate your message. This will help you determine colors, fonts and images; whether to use stills, video or animation. User research and user surveys are very helpful to determine the structure and subject of any large public facing project.

From concept to reality. We maximize exposure and increase viewership to all of our products. To promote small business at NASA, we decided to implement a mascot and refresh the brand. After several versions, and iterations, we ended up with Osby the Space Traveler!

Design

What is the basis of life? . . Water. The Ocean Worlds exhibit was a great project. I created a multi-panel hallway exhibit to highlight the discoveries of life supporting planets.

Motion

I created a hand drawn reveal effect on a digitally hand drawn artwork. This was a story telling adventure to explain the nuances of government procurement. Added a little creative substance to the dry subject matter. Most of my work involves vector art animations and modifications. But I have been working with invideo.io and creating more realistic AI generated space travel.

Management

One of the keys to success is to use a good project management software. At NASA we used HighGear, to keep track of all projects progress and status thru the production workflow. Next key, is communication, at NASA we developed into a team that could relay on each other thru respectful dialog. I knew the team’s strengths and weaknesses to match the task to the designer or editor. Lastly, being subject matter experts, knowing your customers and your products. Know what we can produce and how much time it would take. Using the NASA brand guidelines make is easier for consistency. Its pushing those standards that is the challenge. Thru experience and time you build up a library of assets and knowing what will work for new creatives helps as well.
